Hello, I'm Lydia Powers, an experienced UX/UI designer, director, and strategist committed to crafting impactful and delightful user experiences.
Hello, I’m Lydia Powers, a senior UX/UI and product designer with more than 20 years of design experience and 14+ years creating intuitive digital experiences.
My work spans consumer products, enterprise tools, internal applications, embedded interfaces, mobile apps, and e-commerce platforms. I’m especially skilled at simplifying complex workflows, strengthening visual systems, and balancing user needs with business and technical requirements.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked as a hands-on designer, collaborator, design leader, and creative director. Whether I’m improving an established product or helping shape a new experience, I bring strong visual design, systems thinking, accessibility awareness, and close cross-functional collaboration to the work.
Skills
My technical proficiency encompasses a range of design tools, including Figma, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Sketch, Zeplin, and Microsoft 365. I also have experience with HTML, CSS, prototyping, design systems, accessibility, 3D design, video editing, and sound editing.
Beyond technical capabilities, my professional experience includes design strategy, communication, creative direction, and effectively navigating the dynamics of large corporate environments. I am adept at both leading teams and being a valuable team member, demonstrating adaptability in independent and collaborative work environments.
Education
I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from James Madison University, where I developed my expertise in design principles, art history, and visual communication.
Building on this foundation, I earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Interaction Design from Rochester Institute of Technology. This advanced program expanded my knowledge across diverse areas, including interaction design, animation, video and sound editing, coding, and user experience design. This comprehensive education continues to inform my multidisciplinary approach to creating thoughtful and engaging experiences.
Community and Culture
In addition to my technical skills, my natural inclination toward bringing people together has proven to be a valuable asset. I actively promote connection and camaraderie within my workgroups, helping to foster collaborative, supportive, and enjoyable environments.
Beyond my professional pursuits, I am committed to community service, leadership, and volunteerism. I have served on young-professional boards in Auburn and within Kodak, as well as on the board of Auburn’s Business Improvement District. I currently serve as President of the Greater Rochester Celiac Support Group. I strongly value community and workplace culture, consistently striving to support, lead, and help those around me achieve their highest potential.
